Summer Camp
COMPASS held its Annual Summer Camp on June 11th 2007. It was marked with an atmosphere of high motivation and enthusiasm. Our special children radiated energy and high spirits and motivation of the teachers matched to make the summer camp a huge success.

However the summer camp of 2007 took the show where participation of our own students and involvement of other schools made the whole affair a memorable summer camp for all children and teachers whose spirits displayed much exuberance. The beautifully decorated areas specified for our 6 major activities namely Social Interpersonal skills, Hand writing, Art, Sensory integration, Speech and Physio added an extra chip to the whole gaiety of the summer camp’s atmosphere and gave positive boost to summer camp and the energetic participation was full of zip. This radiant Summer Camp included activities based on Social Interpersonal Skills to improve their self identity, sharing awareness and recognition of emotions, sitting appropriately, greeting, waiting for their turn, use of courtesy words. All this was planned through different activities and techniques like poems, stories, modeling and child role-play to learn appropriate behaviors by practically sharing the experience. An interactive group environment to foster social manners and functional skills.
Another important area was handwriting where different techniques and innovative work sheets were made use of according to the child’s level of performance and ability. An area of Sensory Integration was introduced based on 3 basic senses, tactile, vestibular and proprioceptive activities. Which were divided into indoors & outdoor activities, sequenced in the form of maze activities for vestibular and proprioceptive system. Maze and outdoor activities were designed on the philosophy that sensory integration is a strategy where the child gets information from the environment through its senses integrates and interpret them. Indoor activities like fishing in water, soap activities, wet sand, feely box, watermelon squeeze, exposure of fresh / dry leaves. Touch exposure with rice, beans, boiled macaronis, jelly, hand & footprints to help the child become less tactile defensive.
Art activities were exclusively designed to help the children learn to draw, paint & experiment with different mediums & textures. Cooking classes were held to help the children become functional. At the end of our Summer Camp a parent’s party was arranged where all the projects made by the children were displayed.
All said and done our summer camp 2007 was a memorable camp marked with outstanding success and pumped our whole COMPASS team with confidence and filled us with happiness which knew no bounds and filled us all with a spirit to achieve more and our special children’s enthusiastic performance & involvement made all of us proud.
